The Resilient Teacher... a book for all of teachers out there trying to make change.
I wrote this book because of all of the teachers in my life that I know and love who work to change a deeply broken system every day. This book is about them, it is for them. It is a recognition of the complex and oppressive constraints they work under and their unwavering commitment to serving the students that they work with.
The Resilient Teacher is grounded in critical disability studies and Dis/crit theory; it is about teaching inclusively to provide positive and compelling learning experiences to all of our students. Through the narratives of teachers I have had the pleasure to work with and learn from across my career, I outline practices that not only work to build a more inclusive classroom for your students, but that can also re/fuel you: Knowing your commitments; Love, trust, and vulnerability; Curricular play; Loving learning communities. Each chapter comes with suggested reflections to build that practice and curricular activities for the teacher education learning space.
This book is for teachers and the teachers of teachers. I hope it is useful. I am so grateful to you, teachers, for all that you do.
